Turning Lemons into Lemonade

Back in 2017, we decided to go on a trip of a lifetime by taking a year to visit over 20 countries. Planning, saving and implementing would take three years but the wait was going to be worth it. Our grand plan required a leave of absence from work and signing up the youngest member of TraveLLLers3 for distance learning. We had an immense spreadsheet detailing our travel times, accommodations, rental cars, things we wanted to see and do, and possible extra stops we could make along the way. We were ready…and then, Covid happened.

One by one, our plans had to be canceled. As the world went into lockdown, our dream trip came to a screeching halt. Each month required several hours trying to cancel portions of the trip and get refunds. As expected, cancelling was easy. Getting money back was like trying to draw blood from a stone. Some places offered postponements but others refused to return our money. It was devastating. However, almost five years have passed and we have decided to turn those lemons into lemonade. 2025 is a new year with new prospects. We might not be visiting all the places we wanted to in 2020, but 2/3 of TraveLLLers3 is picking up where we left off. We are celebrating my retirement and taking the time to visit several places in Central and South America.

I am by no means a social media expert so I hope you will be able to laugh and shake your head along with me as I learn a new skill. Hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
